Open Play:

Open Play in pickleball is set up to make sure everyone gets to play in a fair and organized way. Courts are grouped into two levels, “Low Intermediate” and “High Intermediate.”

During Open Play hours, courts 1 through 4 will be for “Low Intermediate” play, and courts 5 through 8 will be designated for “High Intermediate” play. However, court assignments may be adjusted as needed, with updates posted clearly on the Whiteboard.

Paddle Racks:

We use paddle racks during open play to keep games running smoothly. The process is simple: you place your paddle in a rack near the courts to indicate you’re ready to play. Once there are four paddles, and a court is available, those players start their game.

This system helps in managing who plays next and ensures a smooth flow of games, allowing players to interact with various opponents, and enhancing both the social and competitive aspects of pickleball.

Pickleball Safety:

Safety in pickleball is crucial, especially when it comes to footwear and eye protection. Wearing proper court shoes can help prevent slips, while eye protection is necessary to guard against accidental ball impacts. Eye injuries are common but avoidable with the right gear.

For those uncomfortable with traditional sunglasses or sports glasses, a simple and budget-friendly alternative is available. Byron recommends buying inexpensive sunglasses and removing the lenses. Just make sure the opening is small enough to block a pickleball, ensuring your eyes stay safe during play.
